At this point, my kids can laugh about them and toss them some day when I'm dead.* Monthly service charge of $6.95. Those old checks are still down there, going back to the 80's. Voila! Old checks! I instantly found my check paying for the policy in my beautiful file system, copied it and got my money. I was only able to claim my money if i had "paper proof". I filed to get it and it was for an old insurance policy. Those took minimal space and were organized so we went on to other projects.Ī few months later, I found my name on a Missing Money site for my state (where the state holds money when a business has some of yours to refund but they can't find you). I wasn't ready to do that and we actually had more pressing stuff to work on. Down in the basement, she was my old check boxes and told me to throw them out. End of the year - boxes go in the basement with tax files.įast forward - I was decluttering and hired an organizer. Every month when my statements would come in, I'd balance the checkbook and file the checks. I would buy special "check organizer" boxes with little monthly dividers. Since then, my home mortgage has been transferred to M&T Bank and I haven’t run into any issues. It’s almost like they want you to foreclose once you have some equity so they can make a profit. I was able to use those to prove what she had been telling me the entire time it was different than apparently what they were doing internally… but even that took several weeks and getting an attorney involved. If I hadn’t saved the voicemails she left, I would probably be homeless right now, or having to rent again with a foreclosure on my record. I managed to get the amount necessary at the end of the year, but they attempted to foreclose on me a month earlier than agreed, despite my actively working with an agent to determine the exact payoff date and letting her know I planned on paying the money. Wells Fargo had my home loan in ‘15 and allowed me to make smaller than normal payments for a year (due to my area unexpectedly flooding - it isn’t in a flood zone) so long as I made up the balance at the end of the year. Thanks for the likes, rewards, and comments everyone. I did not expect this to blow up like it did. I really wanted to press my luck and send 1/30th of the payment every day, but I figured my bank might cut me off at that point.Įdit Wow. And, sure, I'm sure they have that whole process down to an art for minimal human interaction. I'm sure the money comes out of the account a little earlier than the mortgage company actually gets it, losing me a tiny bit of interest or something, but man, it makes me feel better that for trying to charge me $15 for what is essentially an automated process for them, they now get to process 4-5 checks a month. ![]() Doesn't cost me a dime - I don't even pay postage. Took the montly payment, rounded it up a bit, then set my bank to cut them a check every week for a bit over 1/4th the amount. So, I went online and my bank has a neat bill pay service where you can set it to repeat weekly, monthly, etc. Also, I can set up auto-pay, giving them access to my bank account, but that's a hard no from me. I can make a payment over the phone and pay another fee, or I can mail a check/money order for no fee. I've never been late paying it, have occasionally made extra payments, never had any issues.īut this new company wants to charge me a $14.95 "convenience" fee to take a payment online. Last year, for like the 6th time since we bought our house, our mortgage was sold to yet another company. I figured someone here might get a kick out of this.
